The
McConaughy's Place is a 22 acre farm that has been a part of Blue Ash,
Ohio's history since 1920. It is the only farm land that remains in the
growing suburb of Blue Ash. The land was originally purchased by Robert
T. McConaughy's uncle in the 1920's and has been maintained
by the McConaughy family ever since.
The
farm has seen many changes over the years. Three barns, a chicken coop,
pig house, corn crib and were built in the 1920s. One of the barns was converted into a house
a few years later and the second
home was built in 1940. The lake, which offered swimming and fishing in
the summer and ice skating in the winter, was drained dry in 1976, when
the woodchucks and muskrats compromised the earthen dam. Many neighbors remember the hot air
balloons between 1978 - 1989, which took off from "the balloon field"
in front of the older house. Species that have resided on the farm include:
cows (notorious for wandering over to Blue Ash airport), horses, sheep,
pigs, goats, ducks, geese, chickens, deer (love to snack in the gardens),
fish, crawdads, insects, rabbits, squirrels, owls and various birds, dogs, cats,
and of course, humans.
The
farm is maintained and preserved by the McConaughy family, who share their
natural environment with the community. Read the subsections of our website
