Community
Gardening
Do you want to grow your own vegetables, flowers and plants? The front
fields of Mac's farm have been dedicated to community gardening since
1973. You can "work the land", enjoy the fruits (and vegetables)
of your labor, and share ideas and tips with other gardeners.
WHEN:
Community gardening begins in the early spring and ends in late fall.
PRICE: $0.045 per square foot of garden space
SIZE:Rows are 40 feet wide. Lots vary by individual request and can be anywhere
from 40' X 25' to 40' X 140". Lots are assigned on
a first come, first served basis with preference given to previous gardeners. The median lot size is 40 feet by 40
feet.
DEADLINE: All community gardens must be reserved and paid before
any planting.
RULES: The gardens are plowed in the late Fall and tilled in Spring depending
on the weather. Gardeners are responsible for removing any stakes, cages, etc. that might
have been used in their garden during the summer by October 15th. Gardeners may use water from the
community pump and transport it by pale or bucket to their lots. Hoses are not permitted.
Use of compost and natural, organic practices is encouraged.
